I try to host games but as people join they have 0 ping then after like 15 seconds they dissapear. It says something about a firewall and i disabled all firewalls i had yet it still doesnt work

I think this is one of the gamespy bugs, which occured since some month. Either you get a message that gamespy can not authorize you or you see zero ping when someone joines. For instance I always have to relog from start twice until the system allows me to host. Then all works as usually....

Are you running through a router? Because I have to DMZ my router or port forward in order to host because the router has a firewall built in, and if I forget to DMZ, they zero ping and then are removed from the game with a message pertaining to my firewall.

Rotare stole my post, basically. The most common reason would be if you have a router, or for some reason you have closed your ports. If you don't want to DMZ (open all ports on your computer) then you can read the "readme" doc in the Empires folder to find out what specific ports you need to open.

*searches for readme file in Empires folder*
Thanks for the info (I didn't know what ports to open)
EDIT: !!! That's a lot of ports...and I'm pretty sure my router firewall only allows me to open one port per title...

Well, for starters, does your computer's internet cable run through a router, or does it run directly to the wall?

If it runs through a router (and not directly into the wall), then the router most likely has an itnernal firewall. Look at the router (which should be where it is plugged into) and tell me the make and model (example: my router is a Netgear MR814v2)
