that I believe is perfectly normal. that is the "fog of war", and im guessing it was only designed to look nice from above (empires is an RTS after all). if it is bothersome enough for you; try updating your graphics card, lowering the graphics in the options thing, and/or reinstalling empires (those have all helped me on various graphics issues on empires)

I think you just looked at the first picture. Take a gander at the second... Theres no way this is the way the game should behave. I'm not talking about the fog of war either.

You're right. That's some serious clipping or something. Try redownloading the demo and\or checking your video card or something like that.
Could be just a bug in the demo though.

Thanks guys but I'm pretty sure it's my video card. Look at that post on Gamefaqs his video card is in the same series as mine. I suspect that Empires has trouble with GeForce 6 cards.

Apparantly. Too bad for you wonderdude. Try GeForce 8 or 9 like I have. Good for newer games too. I really want you to play this awesome game. (Especially my scenarios!)

Yeah I'll probably get a new video card before the year is out so not a huge problem... EE can keep me interested till then.

Woah, do you have a different wall texture or something?! mine looked different the last time I checked.
Anyways, when I got a NVIDIA graphics card (forget which one, but it was a new one 3-4 years ago, so it isn't that good), it fixed all my graphics problems. But yeah, that is some serious clipping issues.
Reinstalling sometimes works, some of the files might be corrupt or something. Assuming you can save what you already have when reinstalling with the demo, try that before buying a new card (cause otherwise you would have just bought a new graphics card for nothing, unless you needed a new one for other reasons as well)

Will do I'll try redownloading it this weekend but I'm pretty sure that's the problem.
