Alas, our favorite games, Empire Earth (+ Expansion) and Empires: Dawn of the Modern World is still slowly coming to an end. No further patches, no more SSSi to make our fantasies come true, a slow decline of fans, and definitely no good modding support.
I propose we create our own Empires/Empire Earth (except not use Empires content). From here, we can at least fulfill three of four of those problems.
Rotaretilbo and I have already started on the project. Any ideas, joining, and contribution is welcomed.

What do you mean "create our own Empires\Empire Earth"?

He means design one ourselves, as in coding and the whole deal. I have some basic coding skills, so I could be of a little help. Anyways, these games aren't that hard to make (depending on how professional you want it). Like 2D graphics would be easy, sort of like Age of Empires 1. I'm pretty sure that's 2D.
I would be interested, but I doubt we would be able to make anything worthy. Plus, the game is pretty good as it is. Maybe one of the guys who made Empires could leak the source code for us so we could continue making it (unlikely but possible).

Age of Empires 1 + 2 are in Sprites graphics. I don't see the big idea. What's the point in us making a new game when the games are already great as they are? Besides we won't be able to market them or anything.

i think wat they are proposing is making an Empires like game in AOE 1 style. then we would be able to customize it a whole lot more if we make it ourselves.
one problem though is marketing as Tal says. no one would wanna play it. also, we would need a server for multiplayer i believe. and those cost $. not trying to squash anybody's ideas, but i dunno how good of an idea it is.

+ We're just a bunch of teenager for crying out loud! You need a whole crew of coding experts and artists to design a game, and of-course don't forget the piles of cash we'll need for stuff like servers etc. etc.
I don't see this idea going anyware but certain doom. Correct me.

well its easily possible to make a game. of course it wouldnt be anywhere near professional quality. but if we made it w/ flash, we could have something going there. it would help make the graphics look decent and allow us to reach to a broader audience by making only a very simple game (by gaming standards). also, there are tons of websites for hosting flash games. of course that would leave the issue of: who here knows flash at all? i know the pure basics, and i have the program (illegally ) so i might be of some help, but we would really need someone w/ experience.

Global servers, I know obviously we can't do anything about that. However, we could always stick to connecting to each other via DNS or IP Address.
I have some Flash experience, but I kinda figured we'd do an actual C++ programming (for more openness and speed). Of course, this project isn't going to happen over night. Nor the programming or the content.
I've already figured out what the engine layout would be:
Render Engine - OpenGL (rebelling against Direct3D) Sound Engine - FMOD Ex (used in games like CoD4, BioShock, Guitar Hero 3, Starcraft 2, etc.) Network Engine - RakNet Physics Engine - Ageia/NVidia PhysX Filesystem - Coded ourselves
Others: Artificial Intelligence - Don't know yet. May need to buy a book on this. Unit Pathing - ourselves ++ much more
But that's just the beginning of it all. We'll have to figure out contents and such. But for now, I think we'll stick to Empires/Empire Earth like system (pretty much a rewrite, but less professional way).
btw, what 3D Modeling + image manipulator program would you use?

it would b a fun idea, but i think impractical. as i think ur the only one w/ any serious coding experience.

That's alright. I was hoping you guys could do content, but it's your choice.

im not good at all at music, graphics im mediocre at, 3D modeling i gave up on, and im not that good w/ anything else.
id gladly serve as a tester, except for the fact im running on a Mac (unless this is a Mac game, which would be cool).

I could be a tester. My computer could deal with that kind of game very well.

I just got Windows to work (finally) on my Mac, so I could do testing now.
